Burnout Lite
For Christmas this year I got a copy of Flatout: Ultimate Carnage. I had somewhat enjoyed Flatout on the original XBox so I figured this would be a decent hold-over until Paradise comes out next month. So far I’m enjoying it although the first few races were pretty rough. Until you smash some people up for bonus creds to pay for some upgrades, it’s rather difficult to win the early races. Re-doing them again once you’ve upgraded your clunker is a blast though.
My biggest beef with the game so far is the stunt challenges. Launching your driver through the windshield is kind of fun for certain events, and nearly infuriating for others. Luckily however, those mini-games are part of the Carnage mode and aren’t forced upon you during Flatout (race) mode.
Another unfortunate thing is the lack of online gamers. I’ve only checked once though, and it could be just from where it’s the holidays. I did manage to get into one destruction derby and it was a fun time even though only 5 people were in it.
