Mini-fluorescent Bulbs

About a year ago we decided to switch most of our light bulbs over to those mini-fluorescent ones since they use a lot less power, give off nearly the same amount of light and are supposed to last a lot longer. In some rooms we seem to blow a regular 60w bulb every couple of months regardless of the ‘quality’ of the bulb we put in.

The biggest drawback to those fluorescent bulbs is the price, they typically cost around $3 to $4 each around here, even when purchased in a bulk pack. I didn’t go with a generic no name either, but after a year we’ve had to replace 3 of them already. That’s $9. $9 that could have bought at least 18 regular bulbs, not even considering the original $30 we spent on the new lights so far I don’t think we’re saving ourselves any money by using these ‘low energy’ bulbs. Luckily our existing light fixtures are big enough to accommodate the slightly different shape of the bulb, otherwise we wouldn’t have even bothered trying.
