It wasn’t completely free if I remember right, but they did cover 75% of the replacement cost. A number of years ago there was a power surge at work and it killed my receipt printer. One of the girls called the power company to complain and they verified that a surge had taken place due to some people working on the lines or something, and they would cover a chunk of the cost to replace the printer. We ended up getting an Epson TM-T88iii, a pretty popular model in it’s day and it’s been a great little printer, still going strong today! The Epson tm-t88iv is now available but I won’t be upgrading for a while yet since a receipt is a receipt and I don’t need anything fancier than what I’m using. The POS software I’m using is so old that it can’t handle the fancy features anyway!

So we just bought a netbook with Windows 7 Starter on it – we are so used to our Windows Vista in our old netbook – we find that the Starter comes with limitations. You see you can’t even change it’s wallpaper for one and you can only run concurrent applications on a PC at a time (this excludes background processes such as anti-virus applications, wireless and Bluetooth, and system tools like Explorer and Control Panel). So yes – i don’t know what we are planning to do with it – but i’m stopping my rant here to run out and get some natural prenatal vitamins for my best friend. But an upgrade is most likely to happen anytime soon – i’m going to have to read up more on it.

We received a call from someone asking for tech support for his computer he had just bought a few days ago. Well, of course – we must help if you had bought it a few days ago – hell! even if you caught a virus after a few days – we will still take care of you even though it was no fault of ours. After spending half an hour with the “customer” – I learned that he didn’t buy his computer from us but from Staples. in which I politely directed this “customer” to the web directories and asked him to look for Staples contact number and go get help from them. Why do people insist on buying their computers somewhere else and expect us to give them tech support? there are no freebies here – move along.

These days with everything being computerized it’s both wonderful and scary at the same time. You can do your banking and pay your bills from the comfort of your computer chair, you can book movie tickets in advance, in some places you can even renew your license online. This level of convenience brings a certain measure of risk along with it however, as hackers and malware programs can attempt to steal your vital information. Whether it be credit card numbers or social security info, you need to keep your information safe.

So there’s a growing job market out there for people with a Masters of Science in Information Security, a program offered at the Lewis University. Even better is that you can take these courses online! It’s great for people like me who have a full time job and a family, going back to traditional school just isn’t possible. But spending a few hours a night doing online study, after the kid is in bed and the housework is done, is a great way to expand my career options.

Wireless mouse is the in thing in our store and the wife would love one of this when it comes out in August by Microsoft. The Mobile mouse 6000 was recently released in conjunction with a similar 5000 model. Both use BlueTrack and are comfortably sized without being too bulky to cart around. The 6000 features Microsoft’s first nano transceiver, which extends only 0.8 centimeters from the computer’s USB and stores handily inside the mouse itself. But the Mobile mouse 4000 is quite similar but comes in 5 colors and is powered by a single AA-battery for 10 months, the 2.4GHz wireless ensures connection up to 15-feet. I better do more Clinicallix reviews, so that i can buy one for the wife when it comes out.

Thanks to the World of Warcraft Scroll of Resurrection I get to play free for 10 days, on my main account, to see if I find the game interesting enough again. If an account has been inactive for at least 90 days, it can be resurrected by someone with an active account. This is much better than just loading up a free trial for testing because with a trial I’d have to start over at level 1. Now I can test out my old toons to see how the recent changes have affected them.

So far it looks like I might stay, and get Lich King, and when I subscribe again or use a game card, the guy who sent me the resurrection will get a free month. If I reactivate I’ll be trying to get some old friends back in as well, get me some free months too.

And if I have to alt-tab out to ring up a sale it takes forever to switch back and forth. A gig just isn’t enough these days so I really should add some more computer memory to it, but it’s hard to justify spending money on a work computer that works perfectly, for work.

Both me and the wife have been considering getting rid of our clunky old desktops and replacing them with notebook computers instead. It would make sense for the wife more so than for me since she just uses it for internet, pictures and movies. We could sell of both her home and work computer and just bring the laptop back and forth when needed. Me on the other hand, since I like to play games from time to time, probably wouldn’t really be worth it since I’d have to buy a fairly expensive notebook to handle my gaming needs. I’m keeping an eye on the classifieds though in case something good comes up at a decent price.

I’ve been hearing a lot lately about how Hellgate London didn’t turn out as good as people had hoped. “It was fun for a while”, “I regret paying for a lifetime sub”, that sort of thing. Up until now I hadn’t even tried the game, being too busy with the 360 and not wanting to pay a monthly fee for any games right now. I didn’t even know there was a free single player mode until about a week ago when I downloaded the demo.

Then the other day I was putting together a small order from amazon.ca and saw that Hellgate London (vf) was on sale for $12 and figured, damn that’s a good price, but it’s probably french. I ordered it anyway since it was enough to put my order high enough to get free shipping, so really it only cost me around $5. Turns out it was in fact French packaging but the game still had an option to install English so aside from the case & book it’s no different than buying the English version. So far it’s fun, a pretty good Diablo clone, and as long as the game is fairly lengthy I won’t worry too much about the extra content I could get by paying monthly to play online.

Now I don’t know what the best wrinkle cream on the market is these days, but damn if these orcs couldn’t use it by the truckload! I only bought 2 booster packs though so I haven’t got much for useful troops. A big part of the game mechanic is similar to Magic: the Gathering. You have to buy boosters in order to get better troops, but since the cards are random you end up needing to trade off the ones you don’t need to get stuff that works for you.

I mostly game at home on my xbox 360, lately anyway, I used to be mostly into PC games but for the last few months I haven’t found much that I felt like playing. I did start playing Saga recently though, and since the requirements aren’t super high I copied it onto my flash drive so I can play it at work during the really slow periods near closing time. It’s a fun online RTS game, but without buying additional troop cards online it can get a little difficult as you go up in levels. The basic ‘free’ troops are just not tough enough to take on the higher level monsters.

Cables cost a fortune, typically, it’s one of the few items that electronics stores actually make good money on. My last trip through Staples in search of an HDMI cable would have set me back $80, but I know that’s retarded so I hit up the smaller computer stores instead and picked one up for $30 that’s just as good.

For more specialized cables, such as compatible Cisco cables, some great deals can be found online. Even by the time you add in a few bucks for shipping it’s still a lot cheaper than places like Staples or Walmart.
