I was looking through my games folder and realized I hadn’t played Dungeon Runners in quite some time, so I fired it up to see how things were going. Patching, not surprising since it’s been so long, so after 10 minutes it was all set and updated. I see there’s been some improvements, and the addition of a Bling Gnome? Not sure what that is but I think it’s a little helper guy that picks up treasure for you so you can keep on slaughtering uninterrupted. If the little bugger has his own inventory space then that would be awesome and worth the price of subscribing just to avoid frequent loot selling trips back to town.

I’ve got 3 temporary Bling Gnomes to test it out so I headed out the Westgate into the Horrific Dungeon of Legend where I was promptly disemboweled and impaled on a stake. Then I remember that pillar in the middle of town that teleports you to your last waypoint/recent dungeon/towns you’ve been too, and then it was all good. I killed some stuff, picked up some stuff and then went to bed. I still maintain that it’s a good game, a very good game considering the price of admission.

Since EQ2 was down for a small patch or maintenance this morning I fired up Dungeon Runners for the first time in a couple weeks and found there was a new patch for that as well. PvP has had lots of improvements that should help balance things out and make it more fun. I hadn’t tried it yet and probably won’t for a while yet since I’m still such a low level.

New skills have been added, one of the really good ones being Light in the Loafers. I like my warrior guy but he’s soooo slow due to all that heavy armor. This skill will make travelling go a bit faster at least and make it less of a chore to go explore those dark corners I missed on the other side of the map. Another good one is Mad Melee Mastery. Sacrifice 20% health to gain an increase in attack rating, kind of like a berserker mode.

There was so much added and changed on October 22, you’ll have to check out the rest of the patch notes for all the details, it’s just too much to cover in this little post.

I usually only play the game for a half hour at a time so if i don’t manage to find a door to the next level, when I come back to the game later I have to redo the entire level I was on. Also, on normal difficulty it has become too easy now that I’m a member and have the better gear. Think I’ll have to crank it up a notch soon and try it out. I haven’t used a potion in days so I think a little more challenge is in order. Up to level 15 now and looking like quite the badass. Gotta love the current area name, Algor’s Terror-Dome.

EverQuest 2, I nailed quest #1700 on Sunday! Rank 40 on Server and 821 worldwide. Inquisitor #20 worldwide, scary huh?

Tonight I’m just doing a little crafting, as much as I hate it, I really gotta get up to where I can at least make the invis totems so I can stop paying 1g each on broker. I tend to burn through several of them in a night, especially when Feo’s around. Last night we hit up the Isle of Mara to try and work some of the trials. For only being level 66 & 67^^^, those mobs hit HARD. We ended up invising as much as possible and only killing what was necessary. Managed to get a couple of quest updates, but will go back another night when we have more firepower available (Kess and Kroz tend to be absent when we go on these excursions for some reason).

Still having a bit of fun with this one, made it down to level 6 of the main entry dungeon and found the small village type area off of level 5 which you can teleport to from the main town. That’ll save me 5 levels of killing whenever I want to go back in that dungeon. Currently up to level 12 with the fighter and I decided to check out the other 2 classes, mage and archer, to see how they are. The mage is pretty powerful but I find his targeting can be a little screwy.

I decided that I probably will be playing the game a fair bit, even if it’s just for a few minutes at work during slow periods between customers and blogging. I’ve had a City of Heroes time card in stock for over 2 years now, I don’t think anyone around here plays the game anymore, so rather than just letting it sit on the shelf collecting dust, I used it to activate my DR account so I’ve got 6 months of awesome gear and stackable potions ahead of me. Within a half hour I had replaced all my regular craptastic gear with membership quality good gear. I haven’t gotten any of the rarest stuff yet though, those items have rainbow colored names.

I spent some more time in Dungeon Runners last night and quickly discovered that even though it looks like World of Warcraft, it plays like Diablo. Click click click click click potion click click click potion click click DING! Level 2 click click click and so on. It’s fun! I’m currently up to level 7 and have completed a bunch of the quests. Generic fare like ‘Kill 25 of these’ or ‘Go find 7 of those’, but the coin rewards are good for buying new equipment and skills.

Since I haven’t opted to pay for a memebership yet, the good items I’ve found are useless to me and end up being sold to the merchants. I may spring for the $5 after another week or so if I still find the game fun and interesting enough. Haven’t tried out the PVP yet since I figure it’ll be a newbie slaughter fest like when people used to run those town hacks in Diablo 2.

Dungeon Runners is a relatively new online RPG that feels very similar to World of Warcraft. It’s free to download and free to play, so that’s a big plus for it right there. The world feels fairly populated and quests are done a lot like in WoW as well, with quest givers having a big yellow ! over their heads. I’ve only played it for about a half hour so far and have managed to die 3 times without killing a single monster myself. I think I’m going into the wrong dungeons! I’m going to go read their quick start guide before I play again, that should help.

It’s by PlayNC so if you’ve played any of their other popular games (Guild Wars, Lineage, City of Heroes, AutoAssault) then setting up a Dungeon runner account takes less than a minute. Even if you don’t already have a PlayNC account it is still a very fast and easy set up.

For those that want even more content, they also have a membership package which gives access to higher quality items, stackable potions and a bank vault to store loot in. All this for just $4.99US a month. Not bad at all.

The game also has a great sense of humor, poking fun at itself and other games in the genre at almost every turn. I love the Exp bar in this game!

Another nice feature is that you are not locked into a single server like with most games. Your characters are available to play on any world at any time, so if you’re friends are currently in world 4, you can go join them.
