Evony – Time Wasted

Well, Evony feels like the biggest waste of time ever. I went to sleep one night with a couple of decent size towns and 2 smaller towns. I woke up in the morning to find I had been attacked 153 times by the same person and completely lost my 2 biggest towns. Weeks spent building everything up, all gone while I slept for just 1 night. What a huge waste. I think this game needs some serious retooling, or maybe some insurance online options so that if you get totally thrashed you get a bunch of resources back to help rebuild. Something like pay 500 gold a day and if you get destroyed you get 200k of each resource mailed to you so you can get a quick start in a new city.

I’m bored. And since playing a new game sounds like more fun than buying faucets online I figured I’d check out this new game I saw advertised in my own sidebar, Evony. FREE FOREVER! They really like to pimp that free forever feature. As with most free online games these days you can choose to pay for premium features if you want to. I choose not to for now, but so far it’s an interesting little game.

So far I’ve been building and building and building since all new players are under 7 day protection from attacks. Once that 7 days is up I’ll find out how much fun the game still is, I just hope I can get a big enough army by then to save my ass from annihilation. There’s a good bunch of “quests” to follow which keep you cruising quite well as far as resources to. Pay 10k gold to build something and chances are you’ll get a quest reward for 10k gold or more just for building that something. It helps your first city to grow really fast.

The game world is persistent, which so far is a good thing. I go to bed at night and when I get up in he morning I have a crapload of resources which I can use to get started on new buildings and upgrades. The downside to this is that once the 7 day protection is over, I could wake up in the morning to find myself wiped out. I don’t know how the combat part is handled yet, and whether or not you can lose your city or just your soldiers. I’ll be finding that out in a few days too.

So far it’s fun and if I keep playing beyond the weekend I’ll post another update with my ‘progress’.

The West – Slow Browser Game

I started playing The West about a week or so ago after seeing it recommended by a fellow goon. It’s one of those free web browser games, set in the old west, and at times it’s painfully slow. That’s not really a bad thing though, you can spend less than 10 minutes a day ‘playing’ and still advance your character nicely.

You do jobs, gain levels, duel other players, help to found and build a town and so on. There are quests to complete which greatly help with levels and cash but as I said, the pacing can feel a little sluggish if you’re just playing by yourself. Basically you find a job you can handle, click ‘do this job for 2 hours’ and then come back later to see what you accomplished. I’ve gone fishing and caught a pair of women’s shoes, I’ve gone turkey hunting and found a shirt, it’s rather varied what you can do and find. I recommend joining a town as soon as you can, that’s when the fun starts.

Facebook Games

Most games on Facebook don’t hold my interest for very long. For the most part they remind of those old BBS games like Hack & Slash and Tradewars, but less complex. Two that have stuck with me the longest so far are Scratch & Win and Pull Tabs, they’re simple, mildly fun and can be played in less than 2 minutes a day thanks to the new Superscratch feature. There’s also a Slots game made by the same people but trust me, it’s got nothing on Vegas, you only get a few credits a day and the winnings are pathetic. You do get to transfer the pathetic winnings to the other games though which is nice.

Gaming Updates

Over the last few days I’ve been making some progress in my current 3 games.

LOTRO Trial, now level 14 and have been running around the Shire, helping hobbits. Still having fun with it, and the challenge level has gone up a little bit. Not much though, but I have died a couple of times when 3 or 4 critters gang up on me. I need better potions.

Legend of Morgan, I was briefly in 3rd place.. which if I could hold that position would mean winning $100 US at the end of the round. However, after attempting to steal some more cattle I was reported to the authorities and then someone decided to claim the reward on my head so I lost a full day in jail and fell to 5th place by the time I was out.

Last Scenario, things are picking up in this one as well and I’m still only a couple hours in roughly. Just joined the army and went through another castle/boss fight.

I’m holding a firm grasp at 4th place on the pirate ladder. The top 3 are still over 200 points ahead though so it’s gonna take a while to catch up. There’s still 40 days left in the round however so it’s still any body’s game. Join in! It’s fun! My only concern here is this direct line:

“Your target is to become the best pirate, with any (legal or illegal) means.”

Does that mean hacking into the system is allowed? If so then it’s only a matter of time before some unsavory types have millions of gold and rep points. I’m assuming of course that it’s more likely just flavor text, keeping with the pirate theme and all.

Pirate Life continued

Yarrrghhh! A day in the life of a pirate has brought me up in the ranks fairly quickly, so far. I’m talking of course, about Legend of Morgan. I’m now up to reputation 97 (8th place overall) with the current top pirate being over 400 rep. I’ve learned a few things since yesterday.. such as, doing undertakings repeatedly will actually raise your ability points. Not sure how many successes it takes, but around 30 or 40 fishing trips raised my CON by 1 point. Armed with that knowledge, I’ve started burning down more buildings in an effort to raise my WIS. Higher WIS means I’ll earn more bonus money from my slaves. My main stat, CONstitution, doesn’t help with any of the main income sources, but it does make my guards more effective so I figure that’ll be a good thing later in the game.

Legend of Morgan is a web based game where you take on the role of a pirate. At the end of every round, the top 3 pirates win real cash, with the 1st place prize being $500 US! A round lasts 45 days, during this time you can do quests, go on undertakings, hire seedy underlings to earn money for you, sabotage fellow players and more.

So far in my first day I’ve stolen cattle for profit and used my ill-gotten gains to hire some 2 prostitutes, 3 smugglers and a casino dealer. My reputation so far is only 2 but luckily I got in early, it’s only day 3 in pirate world. The top pirate already has over 200 reputation. Cat with Bow Golf

Here’s a crazy & fun little web game I was introduced to last week.

Cat with Bow Golf

Pretty much the whole site is in Japanese or Chinese or something, so you kinda have to figure it out on your own. Not too difficult though, basically you’re a cat with a bot and you have to hit the target in as few shots as possible. A good tip is that you can shoot while in mid-air, if you don’t, some of the holes are practically impossible. My best score so far is -33. Keep in mind that this is golf so the lower the score the better. Also, watch the power meter.. click on or near the cat.. move the mouse around to aim, and move the mouse further away from the cat to increase the power of the shot.

Club Pogo

Haven’t played anything on pogo.com in a long time so the other day I went back to play me some word whomp and noticed a free trial for club pogo. Figured I might as well check it out since most of the regular games haven’t changed much in years.

There are some fun new games that are exclusive to Club Pogo, my favorites were Stellar Sweeper, Hog Heaven Slots, Canasta and Lottso. Regular price is only $6 a month with a yearly option for $40. Not too bad really, but since I’m already paying monthly for WoW, I’m not gonna subscribe to this past the free trial.
