Well, that’s probably not going to happen this year unless we get some nice weather in the next few days. But the big thing she sometimes forgets, is that I’m lazy =)

So now that we’re approaching the 2008 Black Friday specials I’m starting to see advertising all over the place once again. This year I decided to actually find out what it is. It’s November 28th this year, so last Friday in November I guess.

Ohhhh, it’s the first Friday after Thanksgiving (in the US) which signals the start of the Christmas season. So it’s not that I’ve been under a rock, it’s just that I’m not a stinky American =)

As usual Christmas is coming up faster than I can prepare for. Also as usual, the wife and I say we should start shopping now so we don’t have to rush. Also also as usual we probably won’t get much done until the last week. We do have one gift taken care of though, so that’s better than last year. I also have some relatives who like to go golfing so maybe new golf bags would be a good idea for them. A little over our regular budget though so maybe not. The lil’ monster will be the main target though, she’ll be 5 this year and is already trying to put together a list for Santa.

I do a fair bit of work with an online marketplace named IZEA and while browsing their forums the other day I saw a thread started by Mama Bok. In this thread she put forth the idea of us all doing something for IZEA for Christmas, as a way to say thank you for what they’ve done for all of us.

The first response was from Ann of the Homeschool Zoo blog. She suggested that we make donations to a charity in IZEAs name and everyone agreed that this was a great idea. During an impromptu online meeting between the founder of IZEA, Ted Murphy, and several of his posties, Mama Bok brought up the charity idea and asked him to pick one for us to donate to. His choice is Habitat for Humanity. If you feel so inclined, you can donate from that secure link. There’s a check box to indicate that you are donating on behalf of a company.

Of course, if you have no idea who IZEA is, you can donate anyway and fill in whatever name you’d like. If you have someone on your list that already has everything they need and want, perhaps a donation in their name would be a nice gesture, and it’s all for a good cause.
