So we just bought a netbook with Windows 7 Starter on it – we are so used to our Windows Vista in our old netbook – we find that the Starter comes with limitations. You see you can’t even change it’s wallpaper for one and you can only run concurrent applications on a PC at a time (this excludes background processes such as anti-virus applications, wireless and Bluetooth, and system tools like Explorer and Control Panel). So yes – i don’t know what we are planning to do with it – but i’m stopping my rant here to run out and get some natural prenatal vitamins for my best friend. But an upgrade is most likely to happen anytime soon – i’m going to have to read up more on it.

I don’t even want to get started but some people are just a pain and definitely need some Acneticin. Why? they are not only crooks but they are crooks that are so ignorant – you really wanna smack them. A crook rented a game from us a month ago and instead of returning it and pay up his lates – he told us that he was going to keep the game for free – since he didn’t want to pay his lates. Today he was online selling our game that he had stolen on a yardsale. Of course, we stopped him – informing everyone that they didn’t belong to him. He had the cheek to call us to say that he called the cops on us???!!!?? the crook who stole from us calling the cops on us – WHAT IS THE WORLD BECOMING? The crooks are bolder than us? how ignorant this crook is.

Going to college right after high school is considered the norm for most people, but I never did the college thing. I took a year of basic Accounting at the local community college and then promptly found work in a fish plant. It was hard to figure out what I actually wanted to do with my life, and now that I’m 37 and self-employed I know what I should have done when I was 18. But that ship has sailed, there’s no way to go back to a regular school at this point in my life, so turning to an online university is the way to go. Western Governors University offers a great variety of online courses so you can get a degree in your spare time. Go to work, spend time with the kids and get a better education all on your own terms, from the comfort of your own home. Getting an online mba would be useful for me since I’m self-employed, I generally know what I’m doing when it comes to running my business, but I’m sure there’s a lot that I don’t know and could benefit from learning at WGU.

There’s an online yard sale facebook group for around here and sometimes there’s good deals to be had. But with nearly 7000 members you have to be quick if something good gets posted cause chances are it won’t last long. In a lot of ways it’s better than driving around on the weekend going to real yard sales. For one, you don’t have the hassle of driving around looking. For another, it’s a wide variety all in one place. I’ve seen people selling old trinkets, new video games, pets, electronics, clothes and even advertising their businesses. Wouldn’t surprise me to see a Plano dentist advertising a weekly special or something next. I’ve sold a few things on there myself and overall it’s great. No eBay/Paypal fees to deal with, no shipping to do, just post some items and if someone wants to buy just arrange a place to meet.

I would need appetite suppressant to keep me from munching on junks. But now you can keep yourself occupied because ESPN has launched a new application for the iPhone, ESPN Radio, which is now available on the App Store. As the name implies, the application will give you access to audio streams of ESPN content including popular shows, station streams, play-by-play broadcasts, podcasts and SportsCenter updates which are uploaded every 20 minutes.</justify>

Got some games laying around gathering dust? Sign up with Goozex and you can trade them in for points which can then be used to get new (to you) games that you want. It’s a pretty simple system really, you get 100 bonus points and a $1 trade credit for signing up. There are thousands of games available for 100 points. Even the most ‘expensive’ games in the system are only 1000 points. Points can be purchased for cash as well so if you’re just a little short you can top it up with a credit card.

Enter the games you want to get rid of and when a match is available you simply stick it in an envelop and mail it out. When they receive the game and leave a positive feedback, the points will be put into your account and can be used immediately to request games. As long as you ship in the right size bubble envelope (not shipping boxes) then it will only cost a couple bucks in mailing fees.

Every Tuesday or when I remember, I head over to The Escapist Magazine to check out the new review by Yahtzee (Zero Punctuation). Once a week he reviews a video game and typically rips it apart, but in a good way. They are very entertaining and in some cases have even gotten the attention of the various people responsible for creating the game. He rarely has many good things to say about the games he reviews, but lots of criticism and negativity. While part of me screams ‘you want some cheese to go with your wine of the month club offerings’, oops wrong whine but my point remains. The rest of me laughs it’s ass off however because they’re just that good (the reviews). Check it out for yourself, here’s his review of Super Mario Galaxy for the Wii.

Lately I’ve been turning a lot of the websites I own into blogs. They’re easy to update this way and information can be sorted into categories or by tags, and entire blogs are very easy to search through. Changing the entire look is simply a matter of downloading a new theme and in seconds you can have a fresh new layout.

In some cases though it’s still best to keep a regular website, and for cases like that I keep my skills brushed up by reading web design blogs on a semi-regular basis. A lot has changed over the years when it comes to coding a webpage; javascript, java and flash have largely taken over where basic HTML used to reign supreme.

Stylish Design is a new and growing resource containing useful information on designing web pages, setting up and maintaining server software and much more.

User johnnyBwilson brings up an interesting point though, the fact that Google makes a shitload of profit off the backs of it’s users while providing them nothing in return. Except for free hosting of their videos of course, but considering some videos get millions of views, that adds up to a lot of potential ad revenue for the big G.

This is easily one of the coolest new games I’ve played in quite some time. It’s small and cheap ($9.95 to buy online through Steam) and offers near limitless play options. The game shares some vague similarities with the likes of Guitar Hero and DDR in that it’s a musical rhythm game, but with some Tetris flavor thrown in. The concept is simple, you drive your car down a highway and ram into colored blocks to cause them to fall. Match the colors to earn points, lose points if you overfill a column.

The ‘highway’ is created by loading a song into the game. Any song. From mp3, CD, iTunes or a number of other options. The game scans the song and adds blocks, turns and hills according to the beat. If it’s a fast song then your highway will be mostly downhill at high speed with lots of blocks to hit. If it’s a slow song, then your road will go slowly uphill. It’s very immersive and since you can load any song into it, you could play for days and never play the same ‘game’ twice. Scores can be uploaded to the leaderboards and if you happen to have first place, you will be notified if someone beats your score so you can come back to reclaim your throne.

If you haven’t tried this out yet you can download a free demo from the official website that lets you play 5 songs. For under $10 though, definitely worth the price of admission to get the full game!

You can get pretty much anything online these days, oftentimes cheaper than you could at a brick & mortar store. Provided you don’t mind paying for shipping and waiting a week or two for your purchases to arrive. Online shopping isn’t for everyone though, some don’t like to use their credit card online, and impulse buyers don’t like to wait, but getting things like Overstock coupons which save you even more money make it a mighty tempting place to shop sometimes.

Sooner or later I’ll have to upgrade to something newer and better though, and seeing things like free Photoshop Brushes and patterns is a good incentive. It’s great to get some freebies once in a while to add new functionality to existing software. Check out Brusheezy for some other cool stuff as well.

Last week I had a hard drive disappear from my network. Physically the drive was still there but the computer lost track of it. After unhooking it and re-seating the cables, it powered up again but upon spin-up I could hear a loud high pitched whine that isn’t normal for a hard drive. Sure enough it was dying, but luckily it did still function enough that I was able to move all my data off it onto other drives.

Backing up your important data is a must. Almost all hard drives will fail eventually, usually without warning and sometimes there will be no hope of recovering what was on it. Keeping your backups off-site is also important in the event of a fire or other disaster, if your backups are in the same building they could be lost along with the original files. The IBackup – Online Backup service is a great way to keep your data safe. Back up anything you want, onto a remote server, from the comfort of your chair. You then have access to your information from anywhere you can get on the internet.
