A buddy of mine is getting married and they sent me a fancy invite through Quinceanera invitations. It’s quite a step up from the last invitations we received which were just the cheap dollar store bulk pack where you have to write in the date/time/name and so on. Not that it was any less important of course, just some people can afford a bigger budget than others. I won’t be able to attend this time though since it’s in the states and I can’t take that much time away from work.

An old school buddy of mine was telling me a while back that he’s been making his own bio-diesel for his vehicles and that the stuff works awesome. In the last 6 months he’s only had to spend around $50 on diesel and that he’s put 10’s of thousands of KM on the cars in that time. It’s dirty shitty work though he admits, but for the savings it’s worth it to him.

Now I’ve been reading about other alternatives to burning straight gas in my car and one of the most intriguing is the ability to burn water as a supplement. People using this method report savings of up to 60% on their fuel bill and the best part is that now you can do it yourself. Build the kit from scratch and the installation is almost painless. With gas prices hitting $1.20 a litre up here I could sure use some cheap gas options. The last time I filled up it cost me $46! Ugh.

I met my wife online many years ago, and after several years of typing back and forth and phone calls, she came to visit during Christmas, 2000. Shortly after she went back home I took a trip over there to visit her and spent 5 weeks in Asia. I spent the bulk of that time in Singapore, but we traveled to Bangkok, Thailand for a few days and also spent a few days in Hong Kong on the way back to Canada. There are some truly unique gifts and decor pieces from South East Asia, items you can’t normally find around here. Dragons carved from teak sawdust, gold mesh plates with dragons and pearls and various figurines are just a few of the things I brought back with me.

While browsing a website with pictures can’t compare to actually wandering the outdoor markets and haggling with the vendors, Asia Pelago is a great alternative for those who won’t be actually traveling to Asia but would like to decorate their home with unique and interesting items.

Last year, the first annual PostieCon was held in Las Vegas to correspond with the Bloggers Choice Awards. This year however, they will be holding it in Orlando, FL. It makes it easier to plan and easier for all the employees to attend, although for the posties it may not be quite the same. We didn’t get to go last year, just wasn’t enough time to plan for it and set money aside. This year, perhaps we’ll be able to attend. Too bad we won’t be able to stay in a Vegas hotel and check out the strip. Orlando is a probably better in the long run though, we’d be able to take the brat to Disney Land since I’m sure we’ll be dragging her along with us if we do any traveling.

If you’re in the UK and looking to do some traveling over the holidays or on your next vacation then check out dialaflight.com. Great trip prices are just a phone call away and along with booking your flight you can also use them for hotel and car reservations. A good example is flights to Thailand between January and March, 2008 leaving from Heathrow for just £385 taxes included.

If you’ve never been to Thailand you’ve got to check it out. I was in Asia for 5 weeks back in 2001 and spent a week of that trip in Bangkok. The various temples are amazing to see and the nightlife is pretty crazy too. A lot of things are really cheap there and the exchange rate is even better now. Back then $50 Cdn was worth around 1000 baht, now my $50 is worth 1500 baht. Make sure you tip well and you’ll be treated like royalty.
