Tonight I’m taking part in my first draft in MTGO. After looking through the tournament types I finally settled on an M10 Swiss draft. This way I get to play all 3 rounds whether I win or lose, and at the end I win a booster pack for each match that I won. Plus I get to keep the cards I drafted. I really have no idea what to look for as far as “best cards” go, but out of 3 packs I ended up snagging 6 rares. Some I won’t be using in my deck but I just couldn’t pass up the chance to snag extra rares.

First match is over and it was definitely more fun than reading diet pill reviews, I won the match 2-0. Here’s to hoping rounds 2 and 3 go just as well. I suppose it’s not the greatest, playing swiss, since even if I win all 3 rounds I get 3 packs whereas with regular drafts you have a chance to win as many as 8 packs. Gotta come in first to do that though and if you lose a match you’re done, so your chances are much better with Swiss.

Looks like my deck was too fast, the other games in round 1 aren’t even done yet.

That’s what I titled my most recent Magic deck in MTGO. You Gonna Use That Land?. It’s a blue/green land wrecker deck. Green stuff destroys it, blue stuff turns it into islands or causes pain when you tap it. I keep having mana problems of my own with it though despite having 20 lands in a 60 card deck, I just can’t figure it out. Oh! Oops, 63 cards with 20 lands. Still not a bad stretch though considering many of the cards only cost 2 or 3 mana each.

I originally had it configured with mostly red since that’s the common land destruction color and gives you the best fat burners like Incinerate, Lightning Bolt and Fireball. But it felt too generic and that’s why I went with the green/blue combo instead. It’s also an enchantress deck, since there’s so many blue land enchants I figured some Verdurans for drawing power and Yavimaya’s for killing would be the way to go. It’s fun regardless though and I’ll keep tweaking it as I go.

I tried to bling up my cafe in Cafe World on facebook but for some reason it won’t let me buy any more solid gold stoves! I have 4 or 5 that I bought a long time ago but now when I try to buy more they’re all greyed out. I can buy all the other stoves though, the football, the electric grill, the floating UFO thingies and anything else, but no gold! And no gold counters either, it’s weird. And annoying. But it’s just a silly facebook game so… I suppose it doesn’t matter much. So for those curious, here’s what it looks like.

Change can be a good thing. Too much change is typically a bad thing. Unless it’s the clinky clink type of change you find in your pocket at the end of every day and throw it into a can or bottle and forget about it. Do this on a daily basis and eventually you’ll look into the can and go ‘damn, that’s a lot of change’. I’ve got 3 cans full of change right now and I’m sure it’s at least a couple hundred bucks. I’m just too lazy to roll it up and bring it to the bank, so there it sits. Rolling money isn’t fun. I need one of those machines you dump a handful into and it does all the work for you. Maybe I have enough change here to buy one of those machines. Vicious circle I seem to be stuck in eh?! I want fun things to do. Some people find it fun to sit around googling strange words like phentermine, I find it more fun to play games whenever I have some spare time. And right about now is some spare time so I’m off to play me some games before I fall asleep at my desk. Damn 7am comes waaaay too early.

Woot! Today I had a nice little check in the mail, just shy of $2000. It was a rebate for insurance premiums I had paid over the last 15 years for a cancer policy. It was one of their selling points when I took the policy, if I don’t make any claims on it in 15 years I get back all the premiums I paid in, so as of last October my 15 year period was up and a fresh 15 years started. Today my check finally arrived! Since it’s lower than a typical life insurance rate at only around $120 a year it wasn’t a big drain on my wallet but it makes for a nice lump sum now. Time to go pay some bills and maybe treat myself to a little something extra. A new TV stand for that new LCD perhaps!

I got a PS3 a couple months back but so far I still don’t have many games for it. While the system -is- good, basically the same as the XBox 360 when it comes to graphics and sound, I don’t like the controller as much. One place where the PS3 controller really shines though is the D-pad. The 360 directional pad is horrible. Absolute junk. I hate it with a passion. But aside from that the 360 controller is more solid feeling, has better placement for the left analog stick and the trigger buttons are better designed. My fingers keep slipping off the Playstation 3 triggers.

Having said that though, the system does have a few good exclusives that make it worth owning. I’ve long been a fan of the Ratchet & Clank series and you just can’t get it a non-Sony console. There’s a few interesting looking RPG’s that I haven’t played yet, but plan to some day, those being Folklore, Dark Kingdom and Valkyria Chronicles.

It’s not that I didn’t like the game the first time I tried it out, it’s that I had only rented it and only recently did I find a copy to buy at a decent price. In fact I loved the game. It’s fun and it’s a good change of pace from the usual plot of playing the goody two shoes hero guy. The Dungeon Keeper series on PC was similar to this, where you play the evil dudes trying to kill the good dudes.

I’ve managed to find all 4 minion types and progressed through several missions including the slaughter of the half elf half tree Oberon. I found another mistress but decided to keep the one I had, and then blew all my money to fancy of the tower of evil to her liking. I applied for some sales manager jobs in the hopes that my control of an army of evil minions would be enough proof that I can manage a crew of employees. I seem to have run off on a tangent here..

Anyway, back to the Understreets, I need to find my upgraded forge so I can replace this steel armor, it’s getting rusty.

So a couple weeks ago I got my hands on a projector, pretty cheap too, I just hope the bulb isn’t going to burn out soon or something since a replacement would cost more than I paid for the whole projector! The basement isn’t finished yet so my rec room is non-existant, but I wanted to see how this thing looks. I moved the couch away from the wall so I could set it up and test it out. It looks good, damn good in my opinion, but there appears to be a dead pixel. One tiny spot stays blue all the time, no matter what the image should be. I played Rock Band on it for a while and man, it takes some getting used to. The ’screen’ measured 96″ diagonal but it could go bigger if I was in a larger room. The living room is only 14′ so really it’s too small for a projector. Just nice for my 53″ TV though.

Gotta keep saving up so I can get the basement done, hopefully by next summer. Paint one wall white so I don’t need a screen, paint the other walls and the ceiling a dark color to enhance the overall effect. Throw down some home theater carpeting and upgrade the sound system to 7.1 and I think I’d be all set. The biggest problem I foresee is the amount of cables running to the back of the room, unless I have all the gear at the back wall next to the projector. Then you have to keep pointing the remote backwards, hmm, this is gonna need some more thought.

I finally managed to smash my way through In Bloom on expert and then ran head on into Mississippi Queen which had given me problems on hard, but on my second try I got through it. After that I got 5 stars on Gimme Shelter, that’s a fun song all around. The only one in tier 2 that really gave me trouble was Celebrity Skin, but after 4 tries and a few minutes in practice mode I cleared it. On to tier 3!

I’m at the point where I’d like to give real drums a try, but I don’t know anyone who owns a set. Being a drummer in a band would be more exciting than being a futures broker or something, that’s for sure. But, I’ve never been one for public speaking or being in front of crowds, so for now I’ll just keep rocking out in my living room.

After spending a few weeks last year shopping around for swing sets, my father ended up making a frame for us out of logs. All I had to do then was buy a seat & chain from one of the local hardware stores, drill a couple holes through the top support beam and attach the swing. This year we’re looking to add a small platform to the side of it so we can put a slide up for her. The only problem with having built this from logs is that when the weather warmed up this spring, the remaining sap in the logs started to come out, and dripped down the chain making it a sticky mess that’s going to be a bitch to clean off.
